The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) in Toronto is currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship trained, academic diagnostic neuroradiologist to join our Neuroradiology Division. We are an exceptionally collegial group that seeks clinically excellent radiologists to support our mission of excellent patient care delivered in a positive and constructive work environment. We offer excellent compensation and opportunities for professional and career growth.
St. Michael’s Hospital is a member of the Unity Health Toronto network and is a busy, 600-bed tertiary care and Trauma Centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto. Within the University of Toronto, our department has distinguished itself with a long history of recognized excellence in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching. We have a strong culture and history of close collaborative working and teaching relationships with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and the Trauma program.
The Neuroradiology Division encompasses busy CT and MRI services supporting a strong referral base in neurooncology, neurology, neurovascular, spine, skull base, and general neurosurgery as well as community outpatient services. The division also supports a busy multidisciplinary neurointerventional service. The group is heavily involved in clinical activity, teaching and research. We participate fully in the University of Toronto academic programs and train medical students, residents and several full-time University of Toronto Neuroradiology fellows each year.
Our department currently has 3 multi-detector CT scanners, and 4 MRI scanners (two 1.5T and two 3.0 T) plus a portable ultra-low field 0.064T head MRI scanner, the first clinical implementation of this technology in Canada. A new MRI scanner and a new PET-CT scanner are currently being installed and are anticipated to be operational in the department in 2024. New additional CT and MRI scanners are planned.
Recently, significant new resources have been added in support of the Department’s internationally recognized research work through a Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence. The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre which provide world-class support and opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research.
The candidate will be a self-starter, a team player comfortable interpreting all types of neuroradiological studies (plain film, CT and MR, lumbar puncture and myelography). A candidate who has experience with quantitative MRI analysis of neuroimaging biomarkers such as DTI and perfusion imaging, pulse sequence optimization for clinical and research neuroimaging, functional imaging and neurovascular imaging techniques such as high-field vessel wall imaging would be desirable. Experience and/or formal training in PET-CT would also be an asset. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto and will integrate into multi-disciplinary clinical, education and research
programs at St. Michael’s Hospital. The successful candidate should hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a two-year RCPSC accredited fellowship in neuroradiology or equivalent experience. Successful completion of subspecialty exams is desirable.
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
Review of applications will begin immediately. The position will remain open until filled or recruitment is closed.
Qualified candidates should send a cover letter, CV, and list of 3 potential references to:
